Page 1 of 4 In this tutorial I will explain how to make ship in Maya using Nurbs curves, surfaces and poly geometry.
First create curve using CV curve tool (you can use EP, but CV gives you more control). We will work only on one side.
Create another that follows the profile of the ship. Use C to snap to previous curve.
Create two curves to better define the shape of the ship.
Select all curves and go to edit curves/cut curve. This will cut all curves at intersection.
Select the most front profile curve and split in two parts. Right click on curve and select curve point, then drag on curve to select. Then just go to edit curves/detach curves. Red points show where to make a split.
Then go to edit curves/rebuild curves. Front curve, side curves and back curve shall have 3 spans. For top and bottom curves I used 5, 10, 7 or something like that.
So, when done delete history.
Select first four curves and do surfaces/boundary. This will create nurbs surface between these four curves.
When done, you shall get something like this:
